Xiaomi Redmi 6 is released for users with a slightly higher budget than the low-range scene. Redmi 6A
got huge attention in the low-range scene. People who are looking for something a bit more upgraded may benefit from this short review.
Redmi 6 comes with a compact plastic body with a metallic finish and curved edges. The display is a 5.45-inch Full-View one with no screen protection. There is also no 2.5D curved glass. It looks like a compact, modest phone in hand with good grip. The HD+ IPS display provides satisfying viewing experience with decent view under sunlight as well.
The dual 12+5 MP camera on the back with LED flash looks pretty elegant for a budget phone like this. The daylight shots were great with excellent colors, focus and dynamic range. We didn’t expect such a good result from a Xiaomi phone at this price range. Low light brightness in normal mode was fairly clear as well (with a good amount of noise of course). 5 MP front camera with f/2.2 aperture did a fine job as well. Full HD video recording is clear, sharp and stable. Show motion video, portrait bokeh, PDAF fast autofocus, HDR etc. are some of its admirable camera features. Overall, pretty awesome camera for the cost and definitely recommended.
Redmi 6 comes with MediaTek’s Helio P22 chipset with 12 nm octa-core CPU and 3 GB RAM which signifies adequate performance. Helio P22 is known for its power efficiency and faster performance than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450. So, you will get a much better battery backup with just 3000 mAh. You may get one to one and a half day battery backup with one full charge depending on usage time as a regular modern user. Full charging will take about 2 hours and 15 minutes. However, graphics performance is lower than Snapdragon 450. But we saw overall good performance and no lag while testing some apps in low settings. There should not be any overheating issue which indicates fine hardware and software optimization.
Redmi 6 comes with a back-mounted fingerprint sensor, OTG, face unlock etc. features as well. There is also a so-called “dual app” feature which will let you use two different apps account (for example, two WhatsApp accounts) in this device. Overall, pretty amazing for the price. If you wish a phone with similar price, performance and feature with better design, check out Lava R3 Note. If you want something more durable and trustworthy, but ok with slightly lower performance, see Samsung Galaxy J4. Or, you may view Motorola Moto E4 Plus for ultimate battery performance with attractive specs in this price range.
